Oxford Biomedica’s Design and Discovery Group (DDG) is part of Early Development, and its primary function is to develop new gene therapy products.


DDG is seeking ro recruit a Scientist to support the development of an increasing portfolio of gene and cell therapies. The company has a platform of exclusive and pioneering technologies on which are designed, developed and manufactured unique gene and cell-based medicines.


A highly motivated individual is sought to work within this team-orientated group on a maternity cover contract. The successful candidates will have skills and experience in tissue culture, viral vectors, molecular biology, and data analysis.


 Your responsibilities in this role would be:

  • Undertake experimental work including molecular biology, vector production and tissue culture for new and existing programmes as required
  • Design and conduct experiments under the direction of a senior scientist and in accordance with correct methodologies and procedures
  • Maintain a high standard of record keeping and documentation of experiments and investigations to ensure that information is captured clearly.
  • Analyse and interpret data for documenting and reporting at internal meetings and external venues such as conferences.
  • Prepare written reports to a high standard.
  • Liaise with other members of the Discovery and Design Group and assist with other project activities where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the efficient and safe operation of the laboratory
  • May be responsible for maintenance of a laboratory area and/or important equipment.
  • Share scientific knowledge through regular team/department meetings and presentations
  • Support other members of the team and the wider Research Group as required


To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • BSc, Masters or Ph.D. in relevant Bioscience (e.g.molecular biology, virology or gene and cell therapies)
  • Relevant lab research and technical experience with particular emphasis on molecular biology, mammalian cell culture and PCR-based techniques
  • Experience in viral or gene therapy technology preferred
  • Demonstrable ability to work well in a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
