Scientist III / IV Innovation

Date: 18 Apr 2024

Location: Oxford, GB

Company: oxfordbiom

We are at the centre of the rapidly growing cell and gene therapy sector. We deliver life-changing therapies to patients, and so can you.

We are currently recruiting for a Scientist III-IV to join the Vector & Cell Innovation Group.  The purpose of this role is to undertake research in molecular biology relating to viral vectors, and aid the transition of new technologies into aspects of larger scale Upstream and Downstream processing of viral vectors.

OXBs Lentiviral and AAV vector platforms combine the latest and most advanced technologies in gene therapy. The Innovation Group maintains this by driving technological advances in vector design, engineering production cells, and developing small-scale processes.

Your responsibilities in this role would be:

  • The design and execution of small-scale experiments using appropriate molecular biology and tissue culture procedures under the direction of the Group Leader or senior scientist.
  • Conduct research and technical support of the highest quality, largely in a single project area but will assist in other projects as the need arises.
  • Ensure a high standard of record keeping and documentation of experiments and investigations in order that information is clearly captured and disseminated and reported.
  • Will maintain an appropriate level of competence in OXB Upstream and/or Downstream platform processes, receiving training by the Process Development department when necessary
  • Will need to support Client Process Development work or troubleshooting when needed.
  • Accountable for own performance in alignment with group objectives and deadlines.

We are looking for:

  • Minimum MSc Degree with (ideally relevant) experience in industry, or recent PhD Degree in a relevant subject
  • Preferably an understanding of working to GxP standards
  • Knowledge, and ideally experience, in virology and gene therapy would be an advantage
  • Experience in Upstream bioreactors and/or Downstream purification (Akta, Hollow-fibre etc.) is desirable
  • Technical experience with particular emphasis on one or more of the following: Tissue Culture, qPCR, Molecular Biology (cloning) and protein chemistry
  • Adaptability and flexibility in switching from R&D projects to Process Development activities as required
  • Capable of interpreting results from experiments and drawing conclusions but may need guidance from senior scientists.
