We are currently recruiting for a Scientist II as a fixed term maternity cover within the CAB Team within our Platform Research Group. This position will give you experience working with state-of-the-art lab automation systems positioning you at the intersection of Computer Science and Biology.

 

The CAB team works collaboratively to design, implement & continuously improve automated lab workflows using programmable robotic instruments in the lab and automated data analysis pipelines in the office.

 

Your responsibilities in this role would be:

  • Design and carry out experiments for internal platform development as well as external client work.
  • Ensure a high standard of record keeping and documentation of all work.
  • Carry out data analysis and write clear & succinct reports to appropriate deadlines.
  • Presentation of scientific data at internal meetings.
  • Use, maintain and contribute to the optimisation of automated lab instruments.
  • Organise your day-to-day work and appropriately prioritise multiple work-streams.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to a minimum of BSc Degree in a relevant discipline, or basic experience of working in a related environment.
  • Evidence of competency in performing laboratory tasks and general experimental procedures.
  • Some knowledge of good analytical method design & development.
  • Display a high level of good lab citizenship including high regard for laboratory health and safety requirements.
  • Keen interest in technology and desire to innovate.
  • Effective communicator.

 

Knowledge and/or experience in the following topics is also desirable:

  • Experience with qPCR, ELISA, molecular biology, or mammalian cell culture.
  • Using automated lab equipment (e.g. programmable liquid handlers & robotics)
  • Automated data analysis & visualisation
  • Programming languages
  • Laboratory regulatory guidelines e.g. GLP, GCP, GMP
  • Virology and gene therapy
