Oxford Biomedica’s (OXB) Cell Engineering Group (CEG) is part of the Platform Research Department and its primary function is to develop stable cell lines, which will ultimately be used for the production of lentiviral vectors (LVs). CEG is seeking to recruit an experienced scientist to join the team. This Scientist IV role will give you experience working in a cell line development laboratory for a world-leading gene and cell therapy biotech company. The team works to deliver bespoke cell line development programmes for internal and external Clients using automated lab workflows and routine techniques. In addition to experience with mammalian cell culture and lab automation, you should be an effective communicator who excels in a team environment.

 

Your responsibilities in this role would be:

 

  • ·         Support the maintenance of current lab automation in the cell engineering labs and the design of new lab automation strategies.
  • ·         Support the team with cell line development activities and mammalian tissue culture.
  • ·         Support the development of new workflows using automated equipment.
  • ·         Communication of high quality data and reports at internal meetings, client meetings and external venues such as conferences.
  • ·         Maintain a high standard of record keeping and documentation of experiments and investigations to ensure that information is captured clearly and timely
  • ·         Conduct research and technical support of the highest quality in line with role specific activities.
  • ·         Share responsibility for maintenance and compliance of a laboratory area, key laboratory equipment and “housekeeping” procedures.
  • ·         Work independently to meet group objectives and deadlines under supervision of the Group Lead, Principal Scientist or his/her delegated Senior Scientist

 

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

 

  • ·         BSc, MSc or PhD in an applicable Bioscience with an appropriate level of relevant experience. Experience in the biotech industry would be an advantage.
  • ·         Demonstrated experience with mammalian tissue culture; experience with suspension cells would be an advantage.
  • ·         Demonstrated experience with lab automation.   
  • ·         It would be an advantage to have demonstrated experience or knowledge any of the following areas; lab automation work flow design, LV or AAV production, ddPCR, qPCR, flow cytometry,  plasmid cloning and other molecular biology techniques.
  • ·         It would be an advantage to have knowledge in virology and gene therapy, database management and programming (C# and Python).
