We are currently recruiting for Scientists at various levels to join the Upstream Team. The purpose of the roles is to perform and report laboratory-based experiments or investigations, in accordance with scientific or regulatory requirements, and in line with departmental objectives.
Oxford Biomedica’s Process R&D team consists of experienced scientists and engineers that have extensive expertise in all aspects of upstream and downstream development. PR&D take processes from the laboratory “bench” scale and apply process expertise and engineering fundamentals for delivery to Manufacturing.
Your responsibilities in this role would be:
- Perform routine suspension cell culture activities to support viral vector production within the Process R&D group.
- Develop and optimize platform upstream cell culture processes for producing lentiviral vectors, working within small project teams in the Process R&D group.
- Design and execute small scale and laboratory scale bioreactor cell culture activities for scale-up/scale-down of existing bioprocesses.
- Support new product process development and scale-up activities for viral vector production in GMP.
- Involvement in activities ranging from viral vector production, process optimization, technology transfer, and process validation activities associated with the manufacture of new gene therapy vectors.
- Lead the execution of experiments /investigations in accordance with correct methodologies and procedures, under the direction of a Team Leader or senior scientist.
We are looking for:
- Minimum BSc Degree programme level.
- Postgraduate degree and/or relevant experience working with viral vectors is desirable.
- A sound understanding and/or experience of basic mammalian suspension cell culture principles and processes.
- Experience with the operation of laboratory, pilot or production scale cell culture bioreactors is desired.
- Pharmaceutical industry experience in biological research and development, or equivalent experience gained elsewhere.
- Someone who is innovative, shows initiative, and is collaborative.
- Demonstrates good time management skills to be able to effectively manage their own workload.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with good presentation skills.
