Analytical Services

The Analytical Services Group (ASG) are experts in a variety of analytical methods. We support manufacturing activities by performing quality control (QC) release testing. We do this for products made by Oxford Biomedica and our fill and finish contract manufacturing organisations (CMO). Each batch of product must be tested in the way set out in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for the European Union (EU). Before any product can be released for clinical or commercial use, it must meet the defined specification.

We also run stability tests for our products. These record how the quality of the vector substance or product varies with time, under different storage conditions. This information has many uses, for example:
•    to set what the shelf life should be for the substance or product
•    to help use the product in a clinical setting
•    to help freeze and ship the product

ASG work to GMP guidelines on manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance (QA). This makes sure the product is safe for human use.
There are a range of careers in ASG, each with specialised techniques:

Scientists

Scientists perform routine batch release and stability testing. They use a range of techniques and technologies to do this, for example:
•    tissue culture
•    quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)
•    plate reader assays
•    high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)

Scientific Assistants

Scientific Assistants are responsible for a range of activities, like checking stock, calibrating equipment and tissue culture.

QC Officers

QC Officers oversee contract testing, stability study management, and compliance activities.

Sample Management Co-ordinators

Sample Management Co-ordinators are responsible for product samples: receiving, storing, issuing and shipping them.

Our team work in the finest laboratories using the latest technologies. We give robust training by sharing our significant experience and knowledge. The work is stimulating and challenging, and there is a positive and supportive culture.
